James Pollock1
M, #51897, b. before 1782
Last Edited | 2 Sep 2025 |
He was born before 1782, Scotland since he was over 60 in the 1842 census.1
James Pollock immigrated circa 1832 to Upper Canada from Scotland since the 1842 census indicates he had been in what is now Ontario for 10 years.1
James Pollock appeared on the 1842 Canadian Census of Nepean Twp., Carleton County, Canada West (modern Ontario), enumerated 1842. Only the Head of Family was identified in this census. James was described as a farmer (owner of real property). I infer that Robert, who was identified as a deaf/mute in later census records, was the deaf mute in this census as well. He may have been the single male recorded in the Male 21-29 category. Note that in this census ages given were for the next birthday.1
James Pollock appeared on the 1851 Canadian Census (delayed) of Nepean Twp., Carleton County, Canada West (modern Ontario), enumerated 11 January 1851. James was described as a farmer living in a log house. His children, Robert and Christina, were listed as living with him. Robert was a deaf mute, and Christina was actually residing in Osgood. Note that in this census ages given were for the next birthday.2
