The following article appeared in the Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Star-Phoenix, 28 December 1931 :
KINDERSLEY RESIDENT HITS CENTURY MARK XMAS DAY
KINDERSLEY:- It is a happy omen to me born on Christmas Day and in Ireland. At least so thinks William Bolger, who was born on Christmas Day, 1831, in County Wexford, Ireland, and celebrated his 100th, birthday quietly and in possesion (sic) pf all his physical and mental faculties at the home of his son, W. H. Bolger, four miles south of Kindersley on Christmas Day, 1931.
Mr. Bolger came to Canada in 1851 a lad in his 20th. year and settled in Renfrew County, Ont. where he farmed until 1911, when he came to Kindersley and retired at 80 years of age, making his home with his son. Twenty years of ev- (photo and caption WILLIAM BOLGER) ening time has already been his and he says he starts the second century much stronger than he did the first. He remembers clearly hearing the phrase "petticoat government," used in jest at the accession of Queen Victoria, and shook hands with the Prince of Wales, afterward King Edward 7, in the occasion of his visit to Canada and the opening of the Victoria Bridge at Montreal. He remembres (sic) as though it were yesterday, the Irish rebellion of 1848, and the Crimean War in 1854, and other historical events. He tells of the hardships of the pioneer life in Ontario, carrying farm produce many miles through the bush to villages on the Ottawa river to exchange for any life necessities that couldn't be produced on the farm.
He was married in 1862 to Bridget Hughes, who died in 1903. There were born to them eleven children, nine of whom are living. These are, Mrs. Ryan, of North Cobalt, Ont; Mrs. Moore, Admiston (sic), Ont; Mrs. Culham, Astad, Ont; Mrs. Dacey and Mrs. Sullivan, of Sault-St.- Marie; Philip, of Renfrew, Ont; Pat, of Pine River, Ont; Matt, of Sault-St.-Marie, and W. H of Kindersley, There are 39 grand-children.
A sister, Mrs. Snyder, still lives in Rochester, N.Y., aged 92, who took an extensive motor trip fo various points in Ontario last summer and bids fair to see the century mark too.
Mr. Bolger, now well started on his 101st. year, wonders if he is the oldest resident of Saskatchewan. If there are any older he would like to hear from them and to wish them a Happy New Year.3

The following obituary appeared in the newspaper the Star-Phoenix published in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan 11 January 1933:
WILLIAM BOLGER, AGE 101, IS DEAD
Aged Citizen of Kindersley District Passes; Born in Ireland in 1831
KINDERSLEY-- One of the oldest citizens of Saskatchewan passed quietly away the morning of January 9 in the person of William Bolger at the age of 101 years and 15 days. Deceased was born in County Wexford, Ireland, on Christmas day, 1931. At 20 years of age he came to Canada and settled on land near Renfrew, Ontario, where he farmed until 1911 when he retired and came to live with his son, W. H. Bolger, four miles south of Kindersley, where he has lived since.
He was married in 1862 to Bridget Hughes who died in 1903. One sister survives him, Mrs. Snyder of Rochester, N.Y., who is in her 941 h year. There are four sons, P. H., of Renfrew; Patrick, of Blind River, Ont; W. J., of Sault Ste. Marie, and W. H. of Kindersley. Five daughters are: Mrs. Moore, Mrs. Culhxm and Mrs. Ryan in Ontario, Mrs. Dacey and Mrs. Sullivan of the Soo. He celebrated his 100th birthday a year ago last Christmas in full possession of his faculties and until quite recently retained these in large measure.
The funeral service was held on Wednesday morning in the Roman Catholic Church, Father Rankin officiating. Pallbearers were three grandsons, Joseph, Tom and Clarence Bolger, and M. J. Enright, Mac McGrath and J. Gorman. Interment was made in the Kindersley cemetery.1
