Society News...
     Sunday, afternoon, August 21, the wedding of Rea Keast and Mary Alice Hart, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul W. Hart of Springfield, took placeat at Central Baptist church, Sprlngfleld.
     The ceremony was by candlelight, with the Rev, Vernon L. Shontz officiating. Ferns and large baskets of while flowers decorated the church, and aisles were formed with lengths of white satin ribbon.
     Attendants were: Matron of honor, Mrs. Robert Webber of Chicago; maid of honor, Elnora Ruth Hart, sister of the bride; and the bridesmaids were: Jean Keast of Elmhurst, a sister of the bridegroom and Betty McCoy of Springfield. Morris Brookens was best man, with Raymond Chapleau of Elmhurst, Robert Webber of Chicago and Hallock Hoffman of South Bend, Ind., as ushers.
     The bride was lovely in her gown of white French tulle, fashioned with a full skirt, hanging from the waist In a short train. A fingertip veil was held in place by a halo of white blossoms, and her only jewelry was a necklace of pearls, the gift of the groom. She carried a white prayer book. All her attendants wore gowns of dark green chiffon over taffeta. These were made In redingote style with full skirts and short sleeves, with the exception of that worn by Mrs. Webber, matron of honor, whose gown had long sleeves.
     Mrs. Webber carried a bouquet of yellow gladioli tlps while the maid of honor and bridesmaids carried yellow roses.
     Just preceding the ceremony, Wendell Kennedy, organist, played a recital of beautiful selections appropriate to the occasion, and for the processional and recessional, played the traditional wedding .marches and during the service he played "I Love You Truly."
     The bride was given in marriage by her father Paul W. Hart. Mrs. Hart, mother of the bride wore powder blue lace, with white accessories and the groom's mother Mrs. Percy Keant wore blue lace white dubonnet accessories. Both had corsages of roses and delphinium.
     A reception was held at the home of the bride's parents, where a number of friends assisted in the serving. The home was decorated with white flowers, and the wedding cake was decorated In whlte and green, the colors predominating all through the wedding, in the dresses of the attendants and decorations,
     Mr. and Mrs. Keast left for a two weeks trip in Wisconsin, and on their return will make their home at 6025 Kenwood Avenue, Chicago. For traveling the bride wore a dubonnet hemberg print, with black accessories.
     Mrs. Keast attended the Springfield Junior College and University of Chicago, and is a member of the International House staff, at Chicago. The groom. who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Percy Keast of Elmhurst, is instructor In the department of English at the University of Chicago .
     Among the out of town guests at the wedding were the groom's parents from Elmhurst, his grandmother, Mrs. Janet Keast and Ann Wilson of DeKalb, Perry Keast and Mary Harm of Gibson City. Other guests were from Elmhurst, Chicago, Champaign and Springfield.4

     William R. and Mary A. Keast appeared on the 1940 U.S. Federal Census of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, enumerated 15 April 1940, described as a teacher at a college. She was doing editorial work in the publishing industry. They reported they were living at the same place in 1935.7 William Rae Keast registered for the "Old Man's" draft on 16 October 1940 at Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, USA, at the age of 25. He gave his occupation as a college teacher.He listed his next-of-kin/contact person as his wife, Mary Alice Keast. He was described as 5' 8", 145 lbs with blue eyes, brown hair and a light complexion.8
     In the obituary of Perce M. Keast who died 14 April 1978, his son, W. Rae Keast, of Austin, was listed as a survivor.9

     Sunday, afternoon, August 21, the wedding of Rea Keast and Mary Alice Hart, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Paul W. Hart of Springfield, took placeat at Central Baptist church, Sprlngfleld.
     The ceremony was by candlelight, with the Rev, Vernon L. Shontz officiating. Ferns and large baskets of while flowers decorated the church, and aisles were formed with lengths of white satin ribbon.
     Attendants were: Matron of honor, Mrs. Robert Webber of Chicago; maid of honor, Elnora Ruth Hart, sister of the bride; and the bridesmaids were: Jean Keast of Elmhurst, a sister of the bridegroom and Betty McCoy of Springfield. Morris Brookens was best man, with Raymond Chapleau of Elmhurst, Robert Webber of Chicago and Hallock Hoffman of South Bend, Ind., as ushers.
     The bride was lovely in her gown of white French tulle, fashioned with a full skirt, hanging from the waist In a short train. A fingertip veil was held in place by a halo of white blossoms, and her only jewelry was a necklace of pearls, the gift of the groom. She carried a white prayer book. All her attendants wore gowns of dark green chiffon over taffeta. These were made In redingote style with full skirts and short sleeves, with the exception of that worn by Mrs. Webber, matron of honor, whose gown had long sleeves.
     Mrs. Webber carried a bouquet of yellow gladioli tlps while the maid of honor and bridesmaids carried yellow roses.
     Just preceding the ceremony, Wendell Kennedy, organist, played a recital of beautiful selections appropriate to the occasion, and for the processional and recessional, played the traditional wedding .marches and during the service he played "I Love You Truly."
     The bride was given in marriage by her father Paul W. Hart. Mrs. Hart, mother of the bride wore powder blue lace, with white accessories and the groom's mother Mrs. Percy Keant wore blue lace white dubonnet accessories. Both had corsages of roses and delphinium.
     A reception was held at the home of the bride's parents, where a number of friends assisted in the serving. The home was decorated with white flowers, and the wedding cake was decorated In whlte and green, the colors predominating all through the wedding, in the dresses of the attendants and decorations,
     Mr. and Mrs. Keast left for a two weeks trip in Wisconsin, and on their return will make their home at 6025 Kenwood Avenue, Chicago. For traveling the bride wore a dubonnet hemberg print, with black accessories.
     Mrs. Keast attended the Springfield Junior College and University of Chicago, and is a member of the International House staff, at Chicago. The groom. who is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Percy Keast of Elmhurst, is instructor In the department of English at the University of Chicago .
     Among the out of town guests at the wedding were the groom's parents from Elmhurst, his grandmother, Mrs. Janet Keast and Ann Wilson of DeKalb, Perry Keast and Mary Harm of Gibson City. Other guests were from Elmhurst, Chicago, Champaign and Springfield.2

     William R. and Mary A. Keast appeared on the 1940 U.S. Federal Census of Chicago, Cook County, Illinois, enumerated 15 April 1940, described as a teacher at a college. She was doing editorial work in the publishing industry. They reported they were living at the same place in 1935.5 She was listed as next-of-kin/contact on the draft registration of her husband, William Rae Keast.7 Mrs. Rae Keast, the bride's sister-in-law,was Maid of Honor in the marriage of Donald Bruce Gridley andJean Keast on 8 November 1947.8
