Canadian Military Service - WWI

     William Daniel McAllister began military service on 10 January 1916 at the age of 25 at Edmonton South (aka Strathcona), Alberta, Canada, joining the 151st Overseas Battalin. He was a unamrried carpenter. He was described as being 6' 1 3/4" with a dark complexion, blue eyes and dark hair. He was assigned regimental number 624331.2 On 3 October 1916 Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, his unit sailed on the "S. S. California," arriving in Liverpool, England on the 13th. Less than a week later on the 19th, he was hospitalized and discharged on 6 Nov 1916.8
     On 1 December 1916, at France, joined the 8th Battalion. He was in France about 4 months before being hospitalized at Etaples for psoriasis. He was returned to England for treatment, passing through several hospitals until he was finally discharged to the Canadian Army Medical Corps for light duties at Brighton on 17 Oct 1917. During his treatment, he was also diagnosed with trench fever, and later with a heart problem that prevented him returning to action.9
     On 24 June 1919, William amd Edna embarked for Canada, disembarking at Quebec.10 William Daniel McAllister ended military service as part of general demobilization on 2 July 1919 at Québec, Québec, Canada, as medically unfit for further general service. After his demobilzation, they went to Edmonton where they lived the rest of their lives.

     He was commonly known as Dan McAllister.7 He moved to Wetaskiwin, Alberta, Canada, with his parents William McAllister and Janet McAllister and family in circa 1901.7
