     John Thomas Hitchings died on 24 January 1947, in a local hospital, at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada.2
     
     John Hitchings of Asquith P.O. was listed as next-of-kin on his son Gilbert's conscription papers.4
     John Hitchings immigrated on 17 April 1912 to St. John, New Brunswick, Canada, from Liverpool, England aboard the "Montrose." They had booked passage on the Titanic, but it was overbooked so they sailed on another ship. Their stated destination was Asquith, where he would farm. The Asquith history states that Gilbert came with them, but he is included with his mother in an August passenger list., accompanied by Herbert and Edith.1,3
     The following obituary appeared in the newspaper the Star-Phoenix published in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan 27 January 1947:
HITCHINGS
     THE DEATH OF MR. John Thoma Hitchings, aged 78 years, of Asquith, Sask.. occurred in a Saskatoon hospital on Friday, January 21. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 25, at 1.30 pm. from the Baptist Church, Asquith, conducted by Rev Mr. Jenkins. Park Funeral Chapel in charge. Surviving are five sons, Herbert of Warman, Wilson of Saskatoon, Gilbert, Wilfred and Norman of Asquith; two daughters. Mrs. Grace Ewen of Asquith, and Mrs. J. Thompson of Bounty, Sask., and one sister In England. Mr. Hitchings had resided in the Asquith district for the past 33 years.2
