Christian Zonnop1

M, #14566, b. 19 September 1817, d. before 2 April 1871
Father*Martin Zonnop2,1 b. b 1802
Last Edited1 Sep 2021
He was born on 19 September 1817 at Drachhausen, Cottbus, Brandenburg, Prussia/Preußen (modern Germany).1 Christian married Maria Zergon on 23 May 1852 at Drachhausen, Cottbus, Brandenburg, Prussia/Preußen (modern Germany).3,1
Christian Zonnop died before 2 April 1871.4,5
His name was also recorded as Christian Shonnop6 ; and, Christian Schonnop according to his son, Christian's marriage registration7 ; and, Christian Junop.8,9 His name was also recorded as Martin Schonop.8,9,10 He and Maria Zannop emigrated with Martin, Anna, Christie and Mathes their children on 31 March 1862 from Hamburg, Germany, to Quebec City. Note that the Brandenburg Emigration database gives their surname as Zonnop, but does not include an image of the source document for verification. The Hamburg passenger list for the Mathilde appears to give the spelling as indicated above. The Wilhelm Pillgrim family sailed on the same ship.11,12 Christian and Maria Zergon immigrated in 1862 to Golden Lake, Renfrew County, Canada West, United Province of Canada. Note that Linda Rutledge wrote in May 2004, "I also have a picture of what the original Junop homestead looked liked in the 80's. The picture is titled Christian Junop Homestead 1845." However, most of his children were born in Germany, up until at least 1858. Godfrey was born in Ontario in early 1863. Therefore the date attribution of the photo may be too early.13 The late Martin Schonopwas recorded as the groom's father at the marriage of Gotfried Schonop and Rosa Schmidt on 8 May 1889.14 In the death registration of Christian Junop who died on 24 August 1945, Christopher Junop who was born in Germany was identified as his father.15
     Research notes (July 2018):
Need to reconcile usage of both Christian and Martin as given names. Also explore Brandenburg databases for more Zunnop details.16
