William was born on 4 May 1879 in Alice Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, CanadaG, according to Ontario Birth Registration 501162.2,5 William married Augusta Schwant on 9 October 1902 in Sebastopol Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, CanadaG.3,6 A delayed birth registration for William Felhaber was made on 27 April 1948 in Sebastopol Twp., Renfrew County, certified by his older sister Augusta Felhaber. Other evidence included the family bible record and marriage record.2 He died on 6 January 1962 in Sebastopol Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, CanadaG, at age 82 in a house fire. As well as four of his great-grand-children, Debra, Donald, Jackie and Shirley.7 William Felhaber was buried in Sebastopol Baptist (German) Cemetery, Sebastopol Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, CanadaG.3

His name was also recorded as William Fehlhaber on his son Alexander's birth registration.8 He was listed as a witness to the marriage of Edward Gustave Kuehl and Auguste Fehlhaber on 24 May 1898 in Eganville, Grattan Twp., Renfrew County, Ontario, CanadaG.1,9,10,11
The following newspaper article appeared in in the book Reflections of a Century compiled by the Eganville Leader (2002) in Eganville in Ontario originally published 11 January 1962 :
Four children and their great-grandfather died in a fire which destroyed their home on a remote country road at Clontarf in Sebastopol township last Friday night around 10:30 o'clock. News of the tragedy shocked the whole country-side and evoked expressions of sympathy for the grief-stricken parents.

Dead are William Felhaber, age 83, semi-paralyzed by a stroke four years ago, and Debra 5, Donald 4, Jackie 2 and Shirley 1, children of Mr. Felhaber's grandson, Ellard and his wife.

Mrs. Felhaber is expecting another child, and, as the roads are uncertain and the home is located some distance from the nearest telephone, it is said the couple had gone to the home of Mrs. Felhaber's mother, Mrs. Florence Mulroy, located some six miles distant on the main road. Both Mr. and Mrs. Felhaber are 27 years old. Their oldest child, Willard, age 6, was also spending the night at the home of his grandmother.

The fire was spotted by Seymour and D'arcy Felhaber, who were driving past the house about 11:30 p.m. They drove to a grocery store, owned by Mr. Verner Drefke, several miles away, to summon help. When they returned other relatives were at the scene but the fire was raging out of control.

Flames were shooting out of the doors and windows and the kitchen in the rear had burned to the ground. There was no hope. Coroner Dr. R.L. Reeves said an inquest will be held.

The Felhaber home was a two-storey cement block building heated with a wood furnace, and, as a result of the raging fire and the intense heat, little identifiable remains are left of the victims.12
