     He was born circa 1804 at Ackthorp, Lincolnshire, England, since he was age 47 in the 1851 census and 77 in the 1881 census.3,2 Alternatively, he may have been born circa 1803 according to Valerie Bell4; or, circa 1805 at South Elkington, Lincolnshire, England, according to the 1871 census.5 William married Mary Pettinger on 7 September 1826 at Saint Mary, Covenham, Lincolnshire, England.6,7,8
     William and Mary Crosskill appeared on the 1851 British Census of England, at South Cockerington, Lincolnshire, enumerated effective 30 Mar 1851, described as an agricultural labourer. Their children Jesse, John and Thirza were listed as living with them.9,3
     William appeared on the 1871 British Census of England, Lincolnshire, in the household of Jesse and Betsey Crosskell, and he was listed as a widowed Ag Lab(ourer.)5
