In 1871 Census there were 4 families of DeVilaire in Yarmouth. There were no DeVilliers (et al) in the Early Vital Records from 1762-1811. They first show up in the In Which County? book for 1864- 1877. I think they just arrived from Belgium between 1811 and 1864.

Acadian researchers are not sure if he was born in France or Belgium
One reports from the Tusket Wedge parish priest says that he was born in Belgium and served in the French army under Napolean. Managed to evade capture after the Battle of Waterloo and sailed from France (after 1800) to Acadia. Settled in Yarmouth County at Comeau's Hill. He built a log house on this site.

Catholic Church in Tusket Wedge/Yarmouth should have baptism information on his descendants.

Found in 1871 Census of Yarmouth (a. Plymouth district) on page 64.

Was in Napolean Bonaparte's army at Waterloo. Flemish in origin. (WFT Disk #5, Tree #2406)
