     He was born on 22 November 1862 at Clarke Twp., Durham County, Ontario, Canada.1,10,3,4,12,7 Alternatively, he may have been born circa 1861 at Canada West, United Province of Canada, according to the 1891 census13; or, in 1863 or 1864 at Canada West, United Province of Canada, since he was age 17 in the 1881 census and 52 in the 1916 census.9,14 Alternatively, he may have been born circa 1866 at Canada West, United Province of Canada, according to the 1906 census.15 William married Jean Jeffrey Douglas circa 1890 at Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.16,17,13 William married Alice Maud Mary Sutton on 1 April 1897 at Rat Portage (later Kenora), Rainy River District, Ontario, Canada.      William Moffat died on 2 May 1918, just south east of Souris at 25-7-21-W1 (GPS 49.598468 -100.201036), at RM of Glenwood, Manitoba, Canada, at age 55 according to a Certified True Copy of his Manitoba Death Registration: 1918-030114.3,19,20,21,6,22,23 The informant on his death registration was his father-in-law, H. W. Sutton, of Winnipeg.23

     William Moffat was a survivor of his wife Jean who died in 1894.29
     William and Allice M. W. Moffat appeared on the 1901 Canadian Census of Winnipeg, Manitoba, enumerated 31 March 1901, described as a clerk and a Presbyterian. Their children: Douglass (sic) W, Athol William and Harry G., were listed as living with them. "Douglass" and Athol were listed as step-sons of William, but they were actually his sons, and the step-sons of "Allice."30
     William and Maud Moffat appeared on the 1906 Census of Canadian Prairie Provinces, Manitoba, the Chater Post Office, Brandon district, enumerated 6 July 1906. Their children Athol, Harry, Jean and Ernest were listed as living with them.15
     William and Alice M. Moffatt appeared on the 1911 Canadian Census of Manitoba, the Brandon district, enumerated 5 June 1911. William was described as a Presbyterian and a Farmer. Their children Douglas, Athol, Harry, Gean and Earnest were listed as living with them.12
     The following article appeared in the Winnipeg, Manitoba The Winnipeg Tribune, 18 July 1912 :
He was included in a list of the new board of directors of the Grain Growers. A Dec 1, 1916 article included him in the list of directors returned for another year in the newly formed United Grain Growers, an amalgamation of the Manitoba and Alberta Grain Growers companies.31,32

     William and Maud Moffatt appeared on the 1916 Census of Canadian Prairie Provinces, Winnipeg, Manitoba, 221 Home Street, enumerated 5 June 1916, described as Secretary Treasurer of a grain company. Their children Harry, Jean, Ernest, Lloyd and Wilfred were listed as living with them. His sons, Douglas Moffatt and Athol Moffatt were listed in the household and noted as being overseas in the military. The household also included a private servant, Minnie Schultz.14
     The following obituary appeared in the newspaper The Winnipeg Tribune published in Winnipeg, Manitoba 2 May 1918:
William Moffat Is Dead At Souris
     William Moffat, formerly of the Grain Growers Grain company, Winnipeg, is dead at Souris, Man., according to word received in Winnipeg today. He is survived by a widow and six children. The eldest son, Athol, is on active service. The funeral will be held from Gardiner's undertaking to St. James cemetery, Friday afternoon at 4 o'clock.22


     In the obituary of Alice Maud Sutton Moffat who died 11 June 1962, her husband, William Moffat, was listed as predeceased.33
     The following biographical information is from my (Rick Moffat's) personal research , April 2017 :
Both of William's oldest sons, Douglas and Athol were casualties of WWI. Perhaps mercifully, he died before the death of the second, Athol.
; Note that both Douglas and Athol were casualties of World War 1. They were the children of their father's first marriage. Perhaps mercifully, William Moffat did not live to witness the passing of Athol.34

Note that his obituary gives his birthplace as Brookdale which is in the municipality of North Cypress.3,4 Hugh married Rosanne Harriet Stinson in 1914.3 Hugh married Vera Helen Stinson between 1921 and 1923.5,3,6 Hugh married Mary Rosella Stinson in 1965.3,7
     Hugh James McKee died on 13 March 1973 at Sunnyside Nursing Home, Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, at age 80.3,8

     She was born on 21 June 1866 at Megantic County, Canada East, United Province of Canada, in an email message of March 5, 2005, Alice Sparrow wrote: "My mother and my grandmother also kept their age a great secret. In the 1901 census ,she deducted 12 years off her age. She was born in 1866." The census year of birth is enumerated as 1878.

On her marriagee registration, she gave her age as 23, but she was about 27.6,7,5 Alternatively, she may have been born in June 1860 at Canada West, United Province of Canada, based on the 1911 census in which the year of her birth is uncertain. Her age is given as 50, the same as her husband. His year of birth was given as 1860. On her line, the year is heavily smudged and cannot be read.8; or, circa 1862 at Canada East, United Province of Canada, according to the 1921 census.4 Anna married John Graham Moffat on 23 November 1893 at Sault Ste. Marie, Korah Twp., Algoma District, Ontario, Canada, moved to Manitoba shortly after their marriage, settling at Carrol near Souris.9,6,7,8
     Anna Jane Rainey died on 28 March 1949 at Fonthill, Niagara Regional Municipality, Ontario, Canada, at age 82.10,11
     
     Anne Jane Moffat was buried on 31 March 1949 at Souris-Glenwood Cemetery, RM of Souris-Glenwood, Manitoba, Canada.11,3,12
     Anne Jane Moffat of Estevan, Saskatchewan was listed as next-of-kin/contact on her son Walter's attestation (enlistment) papers.13
     Her name was also recorded as Ann Jane on her daughter Annie Isabel Moffat's 1904 birth registration.14
     Anna Jane Rainey appeared on the 1881 Canadian Census of Amabel Twp., Bruce County, Ontario in the household of her parents, James and Mary Ann Rainey.5

     Annie appeared n the 1921 Canadian Census of RM of Oakland, Manitoba, in the household of Walter Moffatt and Gladys Moffatt.4
     In an email of Nov 9, 2005, Alice Sparrow wrote "August of 1947 Mom and " Granny " went to Welland ,Ont to visit Walter Rainey. She died in March of 1949 so I imagine that she was there permanently."15
     The following obituary appeared in the newspaper the Souris Plaindealer published in Souris, Manitoba 30 March 1949 :
The death of Mrs J G Moffat aged 82 years, former Carrol Resident occurred at Fonthill, Ontario on Monday, March 28th. She is survived by one son Walter of Fonthill and a daughter Mrs E Walter of Onanole, Man. The funeral will be held from Diehl's Funeral Home,Souris on Thursday afternoon at 4:30 pm. Rev J B Anderson of Carroll will officiate and burial will be made in Glenwood cemetery.11
