Two South Algona Boys Missing
Search is being made for two young men, Ellard Verch and Garnet Schruder, both of Ruby, South Algona, who have been missing since Sunday from a lumber camp on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River about 45 miles from Pembroke.

The two youths, who were employed by George Zadow, Pembroke jobber, left the camp with two other men Sunday morning to look for a trout lake. After walking a considerable distance, they decided to return to the camp, and while two members of the party retraced their steps. Verch and Schruder decided to take a shortcut and apparently got lost. Their tracks have been followed through the bush by searchers, but the snow that was on the ground at the first of the week has no melted and the trail was lost.

Men from the lumber camp and friends of the young men are carrying on the search, and the aid of Quebec provincial police has been enlisted.

Verch is a son of Herman Verch, a former Reeve of South Algona, and Schruder is a son of Herbert Schruder of Rudy.

This (Friday) afternoon it was rumored the youths had reached Brumm's camp, about 25 miles distant from the point they had entered the woods. This, however, could not be confirmed.2
